Jim Jones has insisted that he s not a rapper, and who are we to disagree? Though his last album was better than many expected, the business manager for the Diplomats shows the limitations of his abilities on this sophomore release. Compared to Cam ron s slick appeal or even Juelz Santana s unflappable confidence, Jones sounds more like a Dipset placeholder than a lyrical star in his own right. He simply lacks the kind of presence to hold down a sixteen song album, especially with a gruff and rather garbled flow that often feels muddled in the mix. This said, for fans of the Dipset sound--shiny soul and thuggy anthems--Harlem Diary should satisfy a few cravings, whether on Jones hometown lullaby, Harlem, or G s Up, with its classic 60s sound, or dramatic and aggressive What Is This. Santana pops up on a few cameos, as does Hell Rell, alongside Diddy and Houston s Paul Wall though Killa Kam is strangely M.I.A. on his label captain s album. --Oliver Wang

Harlem: Diary Of A Summer - Is Jim Jones a Lyricist? NO. Do the raps make sense? Umm...sometimes. Is he just using rap as a way to make money? Most likely. The dude is a hustler, love him or hate him he s most likely a fan first and just does this for some extra cash. You shouldn t take this too seriously. It is what it is. A mediocore rapper w/some dope beats. The production on the LP does sound good especially when you re drivin w/your boys. Its an aquired taste and definetly one of my guilty pleasures. Give it a listen and see what you think. Peace!

Terrible - This guy cannot rap, and that is very obvious to me. I dont get why most people think he is the savior of the east coast. This is one of the worst cds that i have heard in years. Gets 0/5 from me (how i wish they had that option).

One of the Worst CDs of all time - I just got this today, and I was hoping to hear a good album for a change. But unfortunately, I was wrong. From start to finish, this CD was boring, repetitive, and it made me wish that I were deaf the whole time (at least temporarily). I wanted to warn you not to get this one before you waste almost 20 dollars like me.

Whatever you say - Someone below me called this guy the king of New York? What are you thinking? There has not been a rapper from NYC this bad...forever. I really don t like him, and I think that his music is overrated.
